ABOUT

Olivia Dvorak (b. 1992) is a self-taught artist working and living in the midwest of the United States.

Dvorak’s intricate style lends itself to hyper-realistic detail through graphite. Beginning with a reference photograph, she is known to creatively bring out the lifelike features of animals and people, as well as the sharp lines of automobiles and planes. Focusing on elements of contrast, depth and texture, each subject becomes the striking focal point of the piece. The artist occasionally uses colored pencils in the eyes of both animals and individuals. Grey tones surrounding vibrant hues give these pieces a particularly arresting effect. Common to all her drawings is the white background that encompasses each character, leading to the perception of space, openness and stability in her work.

Gaining recognition through commissions, Dvorak has restored hundreds of photographs of dogs, cats, people and special moments through pencil. She is passionate about the healing, joy and balance a piece of art brings to each home, as well as capturing the true essence of each figure she draws.

I AM AN ARTIST

I am an artist, and I create because art gives people the ability to see the world in a beautiful light. My calling is to help others find the creativity and inspiration in their own world through hyper realistic pencil drawings.  Art is personal and tells a story. When a moment is captured in a photograph, my passion is to recreate that subject in its purist form and preserve it in a frame. When someone receives a drawing, or collection of drawings that are personal to them, those pieces of art become a representation of their core values, inspiration, memories and journey.

A person’s home is their sanctuary and should be decorated with meaning and purpose. A venue or place of work is a space that needs energy, creativity and motivation to thrive. When I have the privilege to draw a collection of pieces for a home, office or venue I begin with the story behind the people and the mark they want to leave on the world. I am intentional about each piece I draw. Every drawing holds a memory or represents a value and brand that is important to someone.

I strive to create drawings that are symbolic of who a person or company is and who they strive to be. For one individual, a drawing of an elephant could remind them of their loyalty to family, and their values of strength and courage. For the owner of a corporation, a drawing of an eagle or lion in his or her office could reveal the energy of leadership, the manifestation of high goals and passion. For an animal lover, a drawing of their dog placed above the mantle may transport them to a place of happiness and serenity. In the season when a family member passes away, a lifelike drawing of that person or animal can help bridge the gap between mourning and loss to healing and finding peace. When new life is brought into the world, the gift of art has a way of celebrating joy and happiness. Depictions of nature can offer a fresh sensation to an atmosphere. A realistic drawing of a family’s house could remind them of their dream that was built into a reality, and the future that is in store for generations to come. In the same way, a pencil drawing of a newly established venue or business becomes a marker for new beginnings and all that has been accomplished. Art is balance and stability to an empty wall, and a symbol and reminder of what is important to people in their lives.

I am an artist because the hours of detailed work, precision and technique come together to make a pencil drawing that is meaningful. I create because I love people and playing a part in helping them see the authenticity in their world and journey through life. Art is a gift that brings people together. It allows a person or establishment to preserve a memory, find a spark of inspiration, beauty and healing, or discover something deeper in themselves they may not have realized was there before.
